Schon, Isabel. Recommended Books in Spanish for Children and Young Adults: 1996 Through 1999
(Scarecrow Press, 2000). ISBN 0-8108-3840-0
From School Library Journal--"As with many of her other books, Isabel Schon now provides us with a much lacked and essential tool--1,055 annotations of fiction and nonfiction books written in or translated into Spanish. All entries were in print as of May 1996 and are organized into four sections: reference, nonfiction, publishers' series, and fiction. The book includes a useful appendix listing Spanish book dealers who sell the titles mentioned as well as three indexes--author, title, and subject. Schon recommends grade levels for the books but warns readers that these levels are subjective. As for the recommendations themselves, they are exquisite and highly diverse. Titles range from Mis Cinco Sentidos (My Five Senses) by Aliki, with translation by Daniel Santacruz (HarperCollins, 1995), to The Tree Is Older Than You Are: A Bilingual Gathering of Poems and Stories from Mexico with Paintings by Mexican Artists, selected by Naomi Shihab Nye (Simon & Schuster, 1995). This volume will be an indispensable resource for parents, teachers, and librarians who seek books in Spanish."

Books are listed by country and include complete bibliographic information as well as a summary of content and critical annotations regarding the strengths and weaknesses of each book. Includes an author index, title index, and subject index. Five previous titles regarding this topic have been compiled by Schon.
